Living Waters was well represented at the Marked by Conference with our entire Religious Education Team attending to continue to learn on our faith journey. Our team was thrilled to support Sarah Whelen, as a keynote speaker. Sarah presented to the crowd of 275 Catholic teachers and leaders about her faith leadership and celebrated the feast of the Rosary. Sarah represented Living Waters so well and inspired others in the room. We are incredibly proud of the work that our Religious Education Team has done to build engaging and dynamic Faith Development Days. We can honestly say that we are thriving and modelling the way forward. We were grateful for the opportunity to attend as a team and feel renewed in our faith!

Living Waters School Nutrition Team Leads spent October 6th together discussing their roles and Nutrition programs; sharing menus, recipes and offering support to one another while engaging in some friendly baking and cupcake decorating rivalries. The Nutrition program is designed to introduce a variety of food choices in conjunction with learning about food and healthy eating. Time was spent talking about menus, recipes, and stretching budgets to offer great food experiences to students who choose to participate in the program. This opportunity to come together to work and learn as a team is a great example of Living Waters commitment to bring teams together to create a better tomorrow.

On October 5, 2022, the Whitecourt Board of Trustees had the fun of reading to the kindergarten students at École St. Mary School. They took the time to read, "Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What do you See?" by Eric Carle, and all students were provided a copy of the book to take home. Living Waters Schools is committed to ensuring that literacy is a priority in all schools across the Division.

The Physical Education and Wellness Curriculum Team held its first meeting. The team worked to deconstruct the units from the new Program of Studies and align them with the overarching themes of the Pacing Guide and Living Waters Framework.

It’s that time of the year, when the Board of Trustees review their work plans, and the Board’s priorities in the areas of engagement, advocacy and communications. The Board of Living Waters values the importance of planning to fulfill their governance roles and look forward to a busy year ahead meeting with all stakeholders and engaging in generative dialogue.

This week, September 26-30, all of our schools and our Central Office will be making special efforts to acknowledge the histories and legacies of residential schools and to honour the survivors, their families and communities. Our goal is to honour and understand the shared responsibility of integrating foundational knowledge of Indigenous' peoples' perspectives, and to embrace and support Indigenous students' success. Ken Galliot spent part of his day on September 27 with the Board of Trustees sharing his knowledge by facilitating a smudge.

September 21st is International Day of Peace. We are called to be instruments of peace. Where there is hatred, let there be love. Where there is despair, let there be hope. In creating a better tomorrow, we must all choose peace.
