January 4th is National Ribbon Skirt Day. It is a day where Indigenous women across the country are encouraged to wear their traditional regalia to celebrate their culture, their strength and their connection as women. The ribbon skirt is a traditional piece of clothing across many First Nations. The garment represents strength for First Nations women.

Week 4 is the last week of Advent and it is a celebration of LOVE. We light the final purple candle along with the first two purple candles and the pink joy candle. As we prepare for the coming of the Lord, we need to ask ourselves if our hearts are a fitting place for the Christ child to rest his head. This week, we reflect on our Advent journey and whether we have made spiritual preparations for Christmas in addition to decorating, shopping, wrapping and baking preparations. The glowing light of all four candles reminds us of the light of Christ. We hope that every family has a blessed Christmas and makes many memories with family and friends as we move into a new year. It was a busy week of assessment meetings with the ELA 4, ELA 7, Math 1, Math 4 and ELA 1 teams meeting this week! The groups worked very hard to build their divisional assessments. In fact, ELA 4, ELA 7, Math 1, Math 4, and ELA 1 all finished ahead of schedule! The team members were exceptionally cooperative, collaborative, and willing to share best practices. The work of the assessment teams has helped to ensure that learning remained our laser-like focus throughout the pandemic and beyond into the post-pandemic era. The third week of Advent is here and it signifies that we are halfway to Christmas. The third week of the Advent season represents JOY. In addition to lighting two purple candles, we will light the pink candle on our Advent wreath. As we prepare our hearts for the birth of Christ, we are reminded that joy is on its way. If we honor God in our lives, our spirits will be lifted. Let us keep joy in our hearts and remember that Jesus is the reason for the season!

The blessed season of Advent has arrived! The word “Advent” comes from the Latin word “adventus”, meaning “coming”. Advent is a time when we prepare our hearts and minds for the coming of Jesus Christ at Christmas. This first week of Advent signifies HOPE and we will light one purple candle on our Advent wreath. We are reminded to find time to reflect on how we can be the light for others and bring hope to our world and those around us. Have a wonderful first week of Advent and remember that Jesus is the reason for the season!

ASBA's 2022 Fall General Meeting kicked off on November 20th hosting an evening with its Awards Celebration! Time was taken to recognize outstanding first-year teachers, community partners and school boards who have made notable contributions to public education in Alberta. The Board of Trustees will be in attendance at the ASBA 2022 Fall General Meeting participating in the Business meeting and professional development opportunities.

The Living Waters Board of Trustees attended the 2022 ACSTA AGM and Convention. The theme for the convention is “Walking Together in Catholic Education”. On the first evening of the event they had the opportunity to listen to a panel of presenters who shared their thoughts and reflections about “Walking Together in Catholic Education”. Publicly funded Catholic Education is truly a gift and blessing that we are all grateful for.
